UAlbany & New Hampshire Earn Season's First #AEVB Honors
BOSTON – Four #AEVB teams captured wins over the opening weekend. New Hampshire highlighted the weekend with a 2-1 record at the Army Invitational Tournament. UAlbany, Hartford and UMBC also picked up wins.
All six programs are in action again next week.
Here are the conference's first weekly award winners of the 2019 season:
#AEVB Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 3
Co-Player of the Week
Akuabata Okenwa, UAlbany – Sr., RS, Canyon Country, CA.
- Recorded 49 kills averaging 3.77 per set.
- Also had 22 digs and 9 blocks.
- Named to the Omaha Challenge All-Tournament Team.
- This is Okenwa’s second career Player of the Week honor.
Co-Player of the Week
Jenna Bridges, Hartford – Sr., MB, Exeter, R.I.
- Recorded 31 kills averaging 3.88 per set.
- Also had 14 blocks, 2 digs and an assist.
- This is Bridges' fourth career Player of the Week honor.
Setter of the Week
Emma Patlovich, New Hampshire – Jr., S, Lake Forest, Ill.
- Tallied a total of 50 assists averaging 4.55 per set in 2-1 week for the Wildcats.
- Had 17 digs.
- Recorded a season high 23 assists in 3-1 win over Iona.
- This is Patlovich’s third career Setter of the Week award.
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Emily Tanski, New Hampshire – Sr., L, Plymouth, Mich.
- Averaged 3.82 digs per set for a total of 42 in 2-1 week.
- Helped limit Iona to a .129 hitting percentage in 3-1 win.
- Also had 8 assists and 3 kills.
- This is Tanski’s seventh career Defensive Specialist of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Malea Stanton, UAlbany – Fr., S, Santa Monica, CA.
- Recorded 131 assists averaging 10.08 per set.
- Also had 22 digs, 6 kills, and 3 blocks
- Named to the Omaha Challenge All-Tournament Team.
- This is Stanton’s first career Rookie of the Week honor.
