Trio of Freshmen Earn Opening #AEFH Weekly Awards

BOSTON – Five programs picked up wins on the opening weekend of play while a handful of ranked opponents appeared on the #AEFH schedule. UAlbany won the lone game on Sunday by topping MAC preseason favorite Miami (OH) 2-0 in Delaware.
 
Fifteen games appear on this week's schedule, five of which are against top-25 teams. Three America East teams entered the season in that group in Stanford (21), UAlbany (22) and Maine (24).
Here are the conference's week #1 award winners of the 2019 season:
 
#AEFH Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 3
Offensive Player of the Week
Yasmin Pratt, Monmouth – Fr., Forward, Wicklow, Ireland
  • Scored two goals against Northeastern, one of which tied the game to force overtime.
  • Took a game-high seven shots in season-opening win against Longwood.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sofie Knook, UMass Lowell – Fr., Back, Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Led a defensive unit that shut out Fairfield in the River Hawks’ season opener.
  • Knook also recorded a defensive save in a close 1-0 defeat against #18 Syracuse.
 
Rookie of the Week
Aylin Aufenacker, Monmouth – Fr., Forward, Hamburg, Germany
  • Scored the game-winning goal in Monmouth’s win over Longwood.
  • Also added her first collegiate assist to seal the victory.

Fourteen remaining contests will air on ESPN+/3, home to over 40 America East school-produced events this fall.
