UAlbany, Binghamton, UNH, Stony Brook Win #AEWSOC League Openers
BOSTON – After experiencing success in the non-conference portion of the schedule, #AEWSOC teams began conference play on Sunday. UAlbany, Binghamton, New Hampshire and Stony Brook came away with victories to get off to 1-0 starts.
The top six teams in the standings at the end of the season with qualify for the America East Championship.
Here are the conference's week #5 award winners of the 2019 season:
#AEWSOC Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 23
Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Dora Hayes, Binghamton – Jr. Midfielder, Rensselaer, N.Y.
- Totaled three points in Binghamton’s league-opening 3-2 win over Vermont on Sunday.
- Scored her third goal of the season in the 11th minute and added an assist 11 minutes later.
- This is Hayes’ first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Rachel Florenz, Stony Brook – Jr., Forward, East Islip, N.Y.
- Had three points in leading Stony Brook to a perfect 2-0-0 week.
- Set up the overtime game winner Thursday vs. Fordham.
- Scored in the 12th minute of the Seawolves’ 2-0 win over Maine Sunday.
- This is Florenz’s first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Sofia Manner, Stony Brook – So., Goalkeeper, Helsinki, Finland
- Stopped all 10 shots she faced in leading Stony Brook to two wins last week.
- Made a season-high eight saves in the Seawolves’ league opener on Sunday, a 2-0 win at Maine.
- This is Manner’s first Defensive Player of the Week award of the season and third of her career.
Rookie of the Week
Paula Petri, Stony Brook – Fr., Midfielder, Viersen, Germany
- Had an assist in each of Stony Brook’s win over Fordham and Maine last week.
- This is Petri’s first career Rookie of the Week honor.

Several remaining contests will air on ESPN+/3, home to over 40 America East school-produced events this fall, including a pair of conference games on Sunday.
