BOSTON – America East institutions comprise one of the finest collections of public universities in the country, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report’s Best College Rankings announced last week. Additionally, a pair of member institutions were recognized among the best 100 national universities in the nation.

All eight of the conference's public institutions were chosen among the top 100 public universities nationally in the comprehensive rankings for the seventh-straight year. Only the Big Ten and SEC placed more schools on the Top 100 public universities list.

"The America East Conference consists of like-minded institutions with similar academic profiles and aspirations and these institutions continue to offer their students what they need to be successful,” said America East Commissioner, Amy Huchthausen. “These similarities bond us as a conference as we aim to provide our member institutions a platform upon which both collegiate and life success can be achieved through our #3Pillars.”

Need to Know

To calculate the rankings, U.S. News gathers data from each college on up to 15 indicators of academic excellence. The indicators are scored, normalized and assigned weights that reflect U.S. News' judgment about how much the measures matter. Next, the weighted values are summed and transformed so that each eligible school receives an overall score between 0 and 100, with the top school(s) in each category scoring 100. Finally, colleges and universities are ranked against their peers in descending order of their overall scores.

The America East Conference provides its member schools and their athletic programs a platform upon which student-athletes can achieve both collegiate and life success through the promotion and nurturing of athletic excellence, academic achievement and leadership, on and off the field.

America East’s commitment to academic achievement among its member institutions and student-athletes is unmatched. The conference recognizes over 2,500 student-athletes each year via six different academic awards programs. Additionally, the America East Academic Consortium, a voluntary academic partnership of the nine universities that comprise the America East Conference, aims to leverage the distinctive academic strengths of each member institution to encourage and support inter-institutional academic and administrative collaboration.
