#AEWSOC Teams Start Season Strong; Week #1 Awards Announced
BOSTON – It was a strong opening weekend for #AEWSOC teams as the eight squads that were in action posted a winning record, going 8-6-2. Hartford, Stony Brook and Vermont are off to perfect 2-0 starts while Binghamton and New Hampshire also picked up wins.
All nine programs will play a pair of games this week, including Maine, which kicks off its season Monday evening.
Here are the conference's first weekly award winners of the 2019 season:
#AEWSOC Weekly Award Winners – Aug. 26
Offensive Player of the Week
Kaila Lozada, Hartford – Sr., Forward, Newington, Conn.
- Scored a goal in each of Hartford’s two wins last week.
- Both goals were game winners.
- This is Lozada’s fourth career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Lydia Kessel, Vermont – So., Goalkeeper, Wading River, N.Y.
- Stopped all eight shots she saw last week in 90 minutes of action to help Vermont achieve its first 2-0 start since 2014.
- Made five stops while playing the second half of Friday’s win vs. Sacred Heart and had three first-half saves vs. Army Sunday.
- This is Kessel’s first career Defensive Player of the Week award.
Rookie of the Week
Whitney Wiley, New Hampshire – Fr., Forward, Vienna, Va.
- Scored her first two collegiate goals in Sunday’s win over Sacred Heart.
- This is Wiley’s first career Rookie of the Week honor.

Fifteen remaining contests will air on ESPN+/3, home to over 40 America East school-produced events this fall.
