Tight Men's Leaderboard Highlights Day 1 of #AETF Championships
Albany, N.Y. – One day into the 2019 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire are separated by two points in the men’s standings while UAlbany built a strong lead in women’s competition. The Great Danes will take aim at their 11th consecutive outdoor title on Sunday with a full slate of finals.

Day 1 Highlights
- New Hampshire freshman Nathan Hobbs tied a 19 year-old record in the long jump in the most exciting event of the morning. Three competitors cleared 24 feet with Hobbs wearing goal at 24’9.75”. He is the first Wildcat to win the event since 1989.
- Less than three months after winning the pole vault at the 2019 Indoor #AETF Championships, Binghamton sophomore Mallory Prelewicz maintained her gold standard in outdoors, clearing 12’1.5”
- New Hampshire freshman John King won the javelin at 206’6”, edging out second place by less than two feet.
- Senior Brooke Bonney became the first Binghamton student-athlete to win the women’s hammer throw, tossing 178’4”.
- UMBC sophomore Kelechi Nwanaga defended her javelin title, throwing 170’1” which was 36 feet further than the next-best.
- A pair of retrievers took the top two podium spots in the men’s hammer throw with freshman Emmanouil Kamtsiklis placing first.
- UAlbany freshman EJ Onah’s winning jump of 20’2.25” allowed her to become the first Great Dane to win the long jump since 2013.
- Binghamton picked up 16 points in the women’s 3000m steeplechase as freshman Aziza Chigatayeva won in 10:32.27.
- UMass Lowell’s Benjamin Drezek won the men’s race shortly after, crossing the line in 8:53.77.
- UAlbany junior Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina was responsible for the lone meet record of the day, running the 200m in 21.13.
- UAlbany senior Cara Sherman became the first Great Dane to win the 10,000-meter run, doing so in 35:56.70.
- In the final event of Day 1, Paul Hogan completed a three-peat in the men’s 10K. The UMass Lowell grad student’s time of 30:31.82
