Pair of Hurlers Earn Final #AEBASE Weekly Recognition
BOSTON – With the regular season in the rearview and the 2019 America East Baseball Championship on the horizon, the conference has announced the final weekly honors of the season. UAlbany maintained its blistering pace sweep of Hartford last weekend, stretching its win streak to nine games. UMass Lowell has won five of its last six league contests after taking two of three from the eventual regular season champs, Stony Brook.
The postseason begins Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Binghamton University. All early round games of the championship will be broadcast live on AmericaEast.tv with the championship game on ESPN+. Visit Championship Central for all information regarding the tournament.
Player of the Week
Ciaran Devenney, UMass Lowell – Jr., C, Matalapan, N.J.
- Slashed .467/.667/1.133 and scored five runs in 4-1 week for UMass Lowell.
- Of Devenney’s six RBI last week, four came in the weekend series against Stony Brook.
- This is his second #AEBASE weekly honor of the season.
Pitcher of the Week
Dominic Savino, UAlbany – Jr., RHP, Smithtown, N.Y.
- Allowed one run on three hits in eight innings against Hartford.
- Savino held the Hawks to a team batting average of .130 to earn the win and continue the win streak for the Great Danes.
- This is his second consecutive Pitcher of the Week award and fifth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
Thomas Babalis, Binghamton – Fr., LHP, Branchburg, N.J.
- Improved to 4-1 on the season with seven strong innings of work against Maine.
- Babalis allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out a trio of Black Bears.
- This is his third Rookie of the Week nod of the season.
