Stony Brook Captures #AEBASE Regular-Season Crown, #AEChamps Bracket Set
BOSTON – For the first time since 2015, Stony Brook is the #AEBASE regular-season champion and will be the top seed for the 2019 America East Baseball Championship. The remaining seeds and matchups for the tournament were set Saturday, the final day of the regular season.
The tournament will feature six teams for the fourth-straight year. The four-day double-elimination tournament will take place May 22-25 at Binghamton University’s Bearcats Baseball Complex.
Stony Brook, which captured its fifth regular-season title in program history, will receive a first-day bye along with No. 2 UAlbany, winners of nine in a row. The #2 seed is the Great Danes’ best since 2012.
No. 3 Binghamton, the tournament host, No. 4 UMass Lowell, No. 5 Maine and No. 6 Hartford, the reigning league champion are the remaining seeds.
The tournament begins on Wednesday with No. 4 UMass Lowell facing No. 5 Maine at 11 a.m. and No. 3 Binghamton taking on No. 6 Hartford at 2:30 p.m. The two losing teams will play an elimination game at 6 p.m. The top seeds, No. 1 Stony Brook and No. 2 UAlbany, will be in action on Thursday, along with another elimination game. Three more games will be played Friday while the championship games will be played on Saturday. The league champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Baseball Championship.
