Coppersmith Sweeps #AESB Awards, Earns National Pitcher of Week Honors
BOSTON – UMBC won its second-straight #AESB series, taking two of three from Maine, as freshman phenom Courtney Coppersmith led the way. She threw her second no-hitter of the conference slate and nearly fired another on Sunday. In 18 1/3 innings of work in the series, Coppersmith didn’t allow a run, surrendered only two hits and struck out 41. She was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Elsewhere over the weekend. UAlbany swept its opening #AESB series from Hartford while Binghamton took two of three from Stony Brook.
Six teams will play a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday with Binghamton hosting UAlbany, Hartford welcoming UMass Lowell and UMBC visiting Stony Brook. On the weekend UMass Lowell visits Binghamton, Maine hosts the Hawks and Stony Brook plays at UAlbany.

Player, Pitcher & Rookie of the Week
Courtney Coppersmith, UMBC – Fr., DP/Pitcher, York, Pa.
- First softball player to sweep #AESB weekly awards in conference history..
- At the plate, went 9-for-17 and slashed .529/.556/.765 in a 4-1 week for UMBC.
- Belted a grand slam, drove in six runs and scored four.
- In the circle, went 3-0 with 0.28 ERA in 25 1/3 IP (allowed just one earned run).
- Struck out 51 batters (14.1 strikeouts per 7 innings).
- Allowed only 6 hits (.074 BA against).
- Walked only 7 (7.3-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio).
- Threw a no-hitter with a program record 17 strikeouts in a 7-0 win over Maine Saturday and took a no-hitter into the 7th in a 4-0 win Sunday.
- This is Coppersmith’s first career Player of the Week honor.
- It is both her fifth career Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honor.
