#AESB Season Enters Final Week, Week #12 Awards Announced
BOSTON – Just one week remains in the 2019 #AESB season and the race for the regular-season title will come down to a showdown between UMass Lowell and UAlbany. The River Hawks (13-2) hold a half game lead on the Great Danes (12-2) entering this weekend’s three-game set between the two teams. Stony Brook (9-6) has secured third place while Hartford (5-10), UMBC (5-10), Binghamton (6-12) and Maine (3-11) are fighting for the final three championship bids.
In addition to UMass Lowell-UAlbany, Hartford takes on UMBC and Stony Brook visits Maine this weekend. The 2019 #AESB Championship bracket will be unveiled Saturday afternoon with the tournament taking place May 8-11 at Hartford.
Here are the conference's 12th weekly award winners of 2019:
Player of the Week
Irene Rivera, Stony Brook – Sr., Catcher/IF, Sylmar, Calif.
- Had a conference-best 1.879 OPS in a 3-1 week for Stony Brook last week.
- Belted three home runs and double.
- Drove in eight runs and scored four.
- This is Rivera’s first Player of the Week honor of the season.
Pitcher of the Week
Melissa Rahrich, Stony Brook – Jr., Pitcher, Brighton, Colo.
- Went 3-1 with a 1.05 ERA in 20 innings pitched last week.
- Struck out 14.
- This is Rahrich’s second Pitcher of the Week of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Morgan Bienkowski, Binghamton – Fr., Pitcher, Nanticoke, Pa.
- Allowed just one earned run in 11 2/3 innings pitched.
- Struck out 11 last week.
- This is Bienkowski’s first career Rookie of the Week of the season.
