Stony Brook Claims #AEMLAX Regular-Season Crown; Tourney Bracket Set
Stony Brook, Vermont, UAlbany and UMBC will play for the 2019 America East men's lacrosse title as the four teams will head to Stony Brook for next week's conference championship. The tournament field and bracket were finalized this weekend as the Seawolves claimed the regular-season title with a 12-10 win over the Great Danes Friday and the Retrievers earned the final bid with an 11-9 win over Hartford Saturday.
For the first time since 2014, Stony Brook’s La Valle Stadium will be the site of the conference tournament. Semifinal action takes place on Thursday, May 2 with #2 Vermont facing #3 UAlbany in the first semifinal at 4:30 p.m. followed by #1 Stony Brook battling #4 UMBC at 7:00 p.m. in the nightcap. The two winners will square off for the league title at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.
- Stony Brook (9-5, 5-1 AE) – First outright regular-season title since 2012; Seeded 1st for first time since 2012; 6th-ever regular-season crown; Winners of three straight and six of seven.
- Vermont (7-5, 4-2 AE) – Best seed in program history; 4th championship appearance in the last five years; Matched most conference wins in school history.
- UAlbany (5-8, 4-2 AE) – First time not seeded first since 2012; eighth-straight championship appearance; Seeking 3rd straight title and sixth in seven years.
- UMBC (4-8, 2-4 AE) – Won four-way tiebreak with Binghamton, Hartford and UMass Lowell to earn the final bid; Back in the tournament field after missing out last season.
The semifinals will air on AmericaEast.TV while the championship game will be televised on ESPNU and the ESPN App.
The league champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship, where America East teams have won eight games in the past 12 seasons and 14 all-time, which includes UAlbany’s run to Championship Weekend last year.
