Vermont, UAlbany Secure #AEMLAX Tourney Bids; Week #10 Awards Unveiled
BOSTON – Vermont and UAlbany became the first two #AEMLAX teams to clinch berths in the 2019 conference championship with wins over the weekend. The Catamounts (4-1) and Great Danes (4-1) sit atop the league standings with two weeks remaining in the season, followed by Stony Brook (3-1), which earned a win over UMass Lowell Saturday, Hartford (2-2), UMBC (1-3), UMass Lowell (1-3) and Binghamton (0-4).
This week, Vermont hosts Stony Brook and with a win can earn at least a share of the #AEMLAX regular-season crown, the #1 seed for the conference tournament and the right to host the championship at Virtue Field. Elsewhere, UMBC hosts UMass Lowell and Hartford visits Binghamton.
The majority of #AEMLAX games will appear on AmericaEast.TV, the place to watch free live content on any device, including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels. Offensive Player of the Week
Tom Haun, Stony Brook – Sr., Attacker, Ronkonkama, N.Y.
- Tallied six points in Stony Brook’s win at UMass Lowell Saturday.
- Had four goals and two assists.
- With the game tied at 12 in the fourth quarter, Haun scored the game winner with 3:53 left and added an insurance tally as well.
- This is Haun's third Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season and fourth of his career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Nick Washuta, Vermont – Jr., Goalkeeper, Orono, Minn.
- Stopped nine of the 13 shots he faced in a win over Binghamton Saturday.
- Had a league-best .692 save percentage.
- Also picked up two ground balls
- This is Washuta’s fifth Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and ninth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
David Closterman, Vermont – Fr., Attacker, Doylestown, Pa.
- Matched a career high with four points in Vermont’s win at Binghamton Saturday.
- Had a goal and three assists.
- This is Closterman’s third #AEMLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
