Great Danes Sweep 2019 #AETF Championships
BOSTON – The UAlbany track and field teams swept the 2019 America East championships on Saturday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The women won their seventh consecutive title while the men won their 13th in 14 years.

Paul Hogan was named Most Outstanding Track Performer for the first time in his indoor career. The UMass Lowell graduate student also earned the Coaches’ Award after winning the 5,000-meter and 3,000-meter runs.
Vermont senior Lauren Trumble earned Most Outstanding Track Performer after breaking the championship record in the women’s 1,000m run on Saturday. She became the first Catamount to win the award.
New Hampshire thrower Zachary Astle was named Most Oustanding Field Performer for his gold medal performance in the shot put. Lynda Brundige’s victory in the triple jump helped the UAlbany junior earn the award on the women’s side.
Chidinma Matthew of UAlbany earned the Coaches’ Award for compiling the most points by a female student-athlete during the weekend.
Binghamton’s Casey Gribben was named Most Outstanding Rookie in men’s competition after winning the pole vault on Friday. UAlbany freshman Shelby Bigsby won the shot put and placed second in the weight throw en route to earned Most Oustanding Rookie honors.
UAlbany (women) and New Hampshire (men) were named Coaching Staff of the Year.
Three Elite 18 award winners were named. Maine’s Andrew Clement and New Hampshire’s Ed Speidel were named co-winners with 4.0 GPAs in marine science and accounting, respecitvely. With a 3.99 GPA in child development, Maine’s Taylor Lenentine earned the award.

Day 2 Highlights
- UAlbany’s Sidney Gibbons came within one one-hundredth of a second of the meet record in the 60m hurdles to complete a three-peat in the event.
- Stony Brook senior Courtney Warden duplicated the feat in the women’s high hurdles, finishing in 8.50 seconds.
- A photo finish in the women’s 500-meter run went in favor of Stony Brook as Melissa Riback edged out UMBC’s Tori Johnson by three one-hundredths of a second.
- Lauren Trumble set a new championship record in the women’s 1,000-meter run in 2:45.36.
- New Hampshire junior Zachary Astle defended his title in the men’s shot put with a mark of 53’5”.
- Binghamton junior Jack Fitzgerald became the first Bearcat since 2007 to win the men’s high jump, clearing 7’.25”.
- Lynda Brundige hit the sand at 40’2.25” in the triple jump.
- UMass Lowell junior Dennis Peary became the first River Hawk to win the heptathlon with 4936 points.
- Vermont junior Dan DeBlieck won the men’s 500m dash in 1:03.71.
- UAlbany took the top two spots in the men’s 200m with Jan Gutierrez Almedina earning gold with his 21.20 sprint.
- The women’s shot put was won by UAlbany freshman Shelby Bigsby who tossed 48’1.25”.
- Paul Hogan won his second event of the weekend, clocking in at 8:16.84 in the men’s 3,000m. He is now the only UMass Lowell student-athlete to win the event.
- Hannah Reinhardt won the women’s 3,000m race.
- UAlbany, UMBC, New Hampshire and Stony Brook all won relays to cap off the weekend.
