Stony Brook, Maine Earn Opening #AEBASE Awards of 2019
BOSTON – The first pitch of the 2019 college baseball season was thrown last weekend as Binghamton, Maine, UMass Lowell and Stony Brook all began their non-conference campaigns. The Seawolves earned a series victory against Florida International. The remainder of the league will begin their seasons this weekend.
Here are the first #AEBASE weekly awards of the season:
Player of the Week
Michael Wilson, Stony Brook – Jr., OF, Colonia, N.J.
- Went 6-for-9 in a pair of games against FIU.
- Drove in three runs in the Seawolves’ second win of the season, giving them a series victory.
- This is Wilson’s third career Player of the Week nod.
Pitcher of the Week
Greg Marino, Stony Brook – Jr., RHP, Lake Grove, N.Y.
- Pitched five innings in the season opener to earn the victory.
- Struck out five while walking one and allowing two runs.
- Marino earns Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time in his career.
Rookie of the Week
Nicholas Sinacola, Maine – Fr., RHP, North Attleboro, Mass.
- Pitched five no-hit innings in relief against No. 6 Florida State.
- Struck out five batters while surrendering just two walks.
- This is Sinacola’s first career #AEBASE award.
