Three #AEFH Associate Members Extended Through 2020
BOSTON – The America East Conference announced today a one-year extension for three of its associate members in the sport of field hockey including University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Davis and Stanford University. The extension, which was approved by the conference’s Administration Group, will keep the three schools as America East field hockey associate members through the 2020 season.
Associate members since 2015, California, UC Davis and Stanford comprise the #AEFH West Division while University at Albany, University of Maine, UMass Lowell, Monmouth University, University of New Hampshire and University of Vermont make up the East Division. While there will be no regular-season cross-divisional play once again, the top four teams from East and top two squads from the West will qualify for the 2020 #AEFH Championship, to be played on the home field of top-seeded East Division squad next November.
“While this arrangement is non-traditional, we look forward to maintaining our relationship with these three schools for a final year.” said America East Commissioner, Amy Huchthausen. “Cal, UC Davis and Stanford have been good associate members and, as the only Division I field hockey programs in their region, face unique geographical challenges regarding conference affiliation. We support this decision to protect the overall health of the sport and to give these programs more time to pursue an appropriate long-term solution and conference home for their teams.”
Stanford captured its third America East title in five seasons in 2019, defeating Monmouth in the championship game. The Hawks hosted the championship in their first season as an associate member.
