Four Teams Lock up #AEMSOC Tourney Bids as Regular-Season Winds Down

BOSTON – The six qualifiers for the 2019 #AEMSOC championship are set heading into the final week of #AEMSOC regular-season action. UAlbany, Binghamton, Hartford and UMass Lowell joined a field that already included New Hampshire and Vermont.
 
UAlbany dealt #14 UNH its first loss of the season on Friday night. The Wildcats still sit atop the conference standings tied with Vermont for first place with 15 points. The two teams square off in a game that will decide the regular-season title on Wednesday. The Great Danes, Hawks and River Hawks will also learn their seeds. The Bearcats will be the #6 seed.

#AEMSOC Weekly Award Winners – Nov. 4
Offensive Player of the Week
Jon Arnar Barddal, Vermont – Sr. Midfielder, Garðabær, Iceland
  • Scored four times in a 2-0 week for Vermont.
  • Had three goals in a 5-0 win at Holy Cross on Tuesday and added another score in Saturday’s win over UMBC.
  • This is Barddal’s first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Co-Defensive Player
Jimmy Slayton, Hartford – Sr. Goalkeeper, Wethersfield, Conn.
 
  • Made a career-high 11 saves in Hartford’s 1-0 win over Binghamton.
  • The win secured a championship berth for the Hawks.
  • This is Slayton’s fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and also the fourth of his career.
 
Co-Defensive Player
Aron Runarsson, Vermont – Sr., Goalkeeper, Akureyri, Iceland
 
  • Made a career-high 12 stops in Vermont’s 4-0 win vs. UMBC.
  • The 12 saves is the most for #AEMSOC player since 2015.
  • This is Runarsson’s second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and also the second of his career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Sancho Maroto Tobias, UMass Lowell – Fr., Defender, Alcobendas, Madrid
  • Scored both goals in UMass Lowell’s 2-1 win over Stony Brook on Saturday.
  • The win secured the River Hawks a spot in the #AEMSOC tourney.
  • This is Tobias’ first-ever Rookie of the Week honor.
