Monmouth, Stanford #AEFH Regular Season Champs; Postseason Starts Thursday
BOSTON – The 2019 America East Field Hockey Championship begins Thursday after the regular season came to a close on Sunday. In its inaugural season, #21 Monmouth finished with an unblemished record in conference play winning the East Division regular season title and earning the right to host the 2019 America East Field Hockey Championship. #16 Stanford secured the West Division regular season championship for the fifth consecutive year and will be the three-seed in the championship.
The final seeds for the America East Field Hockey Championship are:
- Monmouth (East #1)
- Maine (East #2)
- Stanford (West #1)
- New Hampshire (East #3)
- California (West #2)
- UAlbany (East #4)
Monmouth clinched sole possession of the East Division regular season crown with a win over Vermont Friday, their eighth-straight. The Hawks will play in the first semifinal on Friday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. on their home turf against the winner of #4 New Hampshire and #5 Cal.
Maine clinched the #2 overall seed with its win at New Hampshire Friday, earning a bye. The Black Bears await the winner of #3 Stanford and #6 UAlbany for a semifinal tilt on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Winners of seven of their last nine, the Black Bears take aim at their second consecutive championship game appearance.
The fourth-seeded New Hampshire Wildcats oppose #5 California in the first quarterfinal on Thursday at 11 a.m. The Wildcats earned the four seed as a result of their win over UAlbany earlier this season. Although idle this weekend, the Golden Bears clinched a postseason berth based on goal differential in conference games.
Stanford locked up the #3 seed after clinching the West Division regular season title with a perfect 4-0 record in the West Division. The Cardinal take on #6 UAlbany in the second quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have combined to win the past five #AEFH championships. The Great Danes clinched the final postseason berth with their win over UMass Lowell Sunday.
