Hartford, UAlbany Advance to the #AEVB Championship Game

For the first time ever, Hartford and UAlbany will decide the America East volleyball title after both teams won semifinal contests on Friday evening. The top-seeded UAlbany held off fourth-seeded Stony Brook, 3-1, while the third-seeded Hawks knocked off the second-seeded New Hampshire, 3-2.
 
Hartford and UAlbany will play for the league crown on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. at UAlbany. The game will air on AmericaEast.TV

#3 Hartford 3, #2 New Hampshire 2
  • America East Player of the Year Jenna Bridges had a game high 27 kills and a game high 6 blocks.
  • Megan Anderson had a career-high 62 assists and Alex Lucero led the Hawks with 20 digs.
  • The Hawks battled for a comeback win over New Hampshire, 3-2.
  • New Hampshire had a hot start winning 2 sets. Hartford earned the third and fourth set to force a fifth and final set.
  • Hartford went on a 5-0 run to take a 14-8 lead with the help of #AEVB Player and Rookie of the Year, Jenna Bridges and Maddie Lindsay in the fourth set.
  • The Hawks are returning to the championship game for the first time since 1993.
#4 Stony Brook 1, #1 UAlbany 3
  • #AEVB First Team All-Conference selection Akuabata Okenwa led the Great Danes with 16 kills.
  • The Great Danes will make an appearance in the #AEVB championship game for the second straight year.
  • Charlotte Macken had a game high 19 digs while Malea Stanton had a team high 22 assists.
  • No. 4 Stony Brook took set 2. After winning the first set, the Great Danes captured the third set. Back and forth action in set 4 between the two teams until UAlbany secured the win, 25-22.
  • UAlbany is seeking its first title since 2011.
The winner of Saturday’s America East volleyball title game will earn the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. Teams will learn their NCAA draw during the selection show on Sunday, December 1 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
