New Hampshire, Stony Brook Capture 2019 #AEXC Championships
ALBANY, N.Y. – Familiar faces claimed the 2019 America East cross country crowns at UAlbany as New Hampshire and Stony Brook won the women’s and men’s team scoring, respectively. Led by three top-five finishers, the Wildcats won their sixth title in seven years and seventh overall. The Seawolves claimed spots two-through-four in the men’s race en route to a third championship in four years and fourth overall.

Hannah Reinhardt became the fifth woman in America East history to win the race in consecutive years, crossing the finish line in 16:45.74 in front of a home crowd. The senior’s time now ranks fifth all-time in conference history.
UMass Lowell’s Christopher Alfond pulled away in the final stretch of a tight men’s race, raising his hands and shouting upon crossing the finish line. The junior had a meet-record time of 23:38.26 and was the third River Hawk to win the meet in as many years after former teammate Paul Hogan claimed the previous two. All three finishers in the men’s race ran at a record pace for the America East championship.
Vermont freshman Bel Sogoloff was named Most Outstanding Rookie, finishing seventh in the women’s race. Stony Brook’s Evan Brennan also earned the award, finishing thirteenth in the men's race.
Led by Robert Hoppler, New Hampshire was voted Coaching Staff of the Year for the seventh time. Andy Ronan and the Stony Brook staff received the honor for the fourth time after leading the men’s team to the title.
Women’s First-Team All-Conference selections included Reinhardt, New Hamsphire’s Elisabeth Danis, Shannon Murdock and Meg Champagne, Binghamton’s Aziza Chigateyeva, and Vermont’s Sogoloff and Phoebe Koski, all of whom placed in the top-seven. The second team was comprised of New Hampshire’s Lauren Dean, Cayla Barretto and Nicole Yeomans, Vermont’s Annemarie Martell and Meaghan Alba, UMass Lowell’s Emily Sessa and Binghamton’s Jessica Cueva-Scarpelli.
Men’s First-Team All-Conference honors were awarded to Alfond, Stony Brook’s Vann Moffett, Cameron Avery, Luke Coulter, Robert Becker and Chris Biondi and New Hampshire’s Nicolas Sevilla-Connelly. UMass Lowell’s Ben Drezek and Derek Holmes, Vermont’s Luke Petela and John Benner, Stony Brook’s Evan Brennan, New Hampshire’s James Wilkes and Binghamton’s Ryan Guerci garnered second team recognition.
The Elite 18 awards are given annually to the event medalists with the highest GPAs. New Hampshire’s Shannon Murdock and UMass Lowell's Ben Drezek were this year's recipients. Murdock carries a 3.72 GPA in nursing while Drezek holds a 3.97 in exercise physiology.
