Lamb Leads Vermont to Best Start in 40 Years, Earns #AEHoops Player of Week Honors

BOSTON – Vermont and UMBC both improved to 4-0 last week, while Stony Brook posted four wins to move to 4-2. The Catamounts, who are 4-0 for the first time since the 1977-78 season, won at St. John’s on Saturday as Anthony Lamb hit the game-winning pull-up jumper with just 2.4 seconds left.

Lamb scored 23 points and added 13 points in that game en route to earning #AEHoops Player of the Week honors. In addition to Lamb, Stony Brook’s Eljiah Olanyi had a big week, averaging 20.0 points per game as the Seawolves went a perfect 3-0 at the Islander Invitational in Texas.

Player of the Week
Anthony Lamb, Vermont – Sr., Forward, Rochester, N.Y.
  • Averaged 19.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5. blocks in a 2-0 week for Vermont.
  • Had 23 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in a 70-68 win at St. John’s on Saturday.
  • Hit the game-winning shot, a pull-up jumper from 16 feet out, with 2.4 seconds remaining.
  • Contributed 15 points and 16 rebounds in a win over Boston University on Wednesday.
  • This is Lamb’s first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season and eighth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
George Tinsley, Binghamton – Fr., Guard, Clarks Summit, Pa.
  • Averaged a double-double of 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games last week.
  • Had career-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds in Binghamton’s win over Sacred Heart on Saturday.
  • This is Tinsley’s first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
