Reinhardt, Alfond, Drezek Qualify for NCAA Championships
Three America East cross country student-athletes will compete in NCAA Championships, marking the first time since 2015 as many runners have qualified from the conference. 2019 #AEXC individual champions Hannah Reinhardt and Chris Alfond qualified as well as Ben Drezek after all ran impressive runs at the Northeast Regionals on Friday. It is the fifth time in eight years that at least one male and one female will represent America East on the nation’s biggest stage.
UAlbany’s Reinhardt won the regional race in a time of 19:28.4, becoming the first woman from America East to win the event since Elinor Purrier in 2017. She is the first Great Dane to be place first in an NCAA regional race.
Alfond is the second River Hawk to appear in the national championship after Paul Hogan competed in 2017. The junior ran a 29-minute 10K to place seventh and punch his ticket to Indiana. Drezek finished twelfth in a time of 29.06.5 to help UMass Lowell to a fourth-place finish at the Northeast Regional.
The national championships will take place on November 23rd in Terre Haute, Indiana starting with the women’s race at 11:15 a.m. ET with the mens’ race following at 12:15 p.m. ET. The event can be streamed live on FloTrack.
