#21 UAlbany, #25 Monmouth and Maine Open #AEFH Play in Win Column; Week #6 Awards Bestowed

BOSTON – Following the opening week of conference play, #21 UAlbany, #25 Monmouth and Maine are off to 1-0 starts. The Great Danes beat Vermont on the road then defeated Columbia to stretch their win streak to eight games. After the Black Bears won their opener against UMass Lowell, it was a 4-3 overtime win over #5 Northwestern that highlighted the weekend. #16 Stanford also upset a ranked opponent, topping #14 Syracuse 3-2 on Saturday.

Another action-packed week lies ahead with a full slate of conference games Friday and more non-conference play to close out the weekend.

#AEFH Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 8
Offensive Player of the Week
Annick van Lange, Monmouth – So., Forward, Sint-Job, Belgium
  • Tallied nine points with four goals and an assist in 2-0 weekend for the Hawks.
  • The sophomore opened conference play with a pair of goals and an assist to lead #25 Monmouth to victory on the road.
  • This is her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Mia Borley, Maine – So., Goalkeeper, Durham, England
  • Anchored defensive unit that shut out UMass Lowell in the league opener.
  • Borley also recorded eight saves in upset of #5 Northwestern.
  • This is Borley’s first Defensive Player of the Week award of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Aylin Aufenacker, Monmouth – Fr., Forward, Hamburg, Germany
  • Registered seven points on three goals and an assist in #25 Monmouth’s perfect weekend.
  • Aufenacker scored what proved to be the game-winner against UNH to give the Hawks their first win in America East play.
  • This her second #AEFH Rookie of the Week nod.
