UAlbany, Maine, UMass Lowell, Vermont Earn #AEWSOC Wins; Week #8 Awards Announced
BOSTON – With just over two weeks to go in the #AEWSOC regular season, four teams posted important wins on Sunday. UAlbany improved to 3-0-1 with its win over UNH and sits atop the conference standings with 10 points. UMass Lowell (3-1-0) moved into a tie for second place with Hartford and Stony Brook after it beat the Seawolves. Maine and Vermont each posted its first conference wins to better its postseason hopes.
The top six teams in the standings at the end of the season with qualify for the America East Championship.
Here are the conference's week #8 award winners of the 2019 season:
#AEWSOC Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 14
Offensive Player of the Week
Katie Gowing, UAlbany – Jr., Defender, Houston, Texas
- Scored both goals in UAlbany’s 2-0 win vs. New Hampshire on Sunday.
- This is Gowing’s first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Sophia Chen, UAlbany – Jr., Goalkeeper, Louisville, Colo.
- Stopped all six shots she faced in recording a shutout vs. New Hampshire on Sunday.
- This is Chen’s second-consecutive Defensive Player of the Week award and second of her career.
Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Kacey Lambertson, Vermont – So., Goalkeeper, Matawan, N.J.
- Stopped all six shots she faced in recording a shutout vs. New Hampshire on Sunday.
- This is Lambertson’s second-Defensive Player of the Week award of the season (9/9) and fourth of her career.
Rookie of the Week
Olivia Chalifoux, Maine – Fr., Midfielder, Montreal, Quebec
- Scored the first goal, also the first of her career, in Maine’s 3-1 win over Binghamton on Sunday.
- This is Chalifoux’s first career Rookie of the Week honor.

Several remaining contests will air on ESPN+/3, home to over 40 America East school-produced events this fall, including a pair of conference games on Sunday.
