Seven Programs Earn League Wins; #AEHoops WBB Weekly Awards Announced

BOSTON – The first week of the #AEHoops conference schedule concluded with Maine and Hartford completing unbeaten frames. The Black Bears are the lone 2-0 team after notching wins over New Hampshire and UMBC at home. Hartford handed Stony Brook its first home loss of the season on Wednesday.

  • Vermont set a single-game conference record with 14 blocks in the team’s first league win of the season against UAlbany.
  • Hartford has won six of its last eight games and ranks seventh in the nation in steals.
  • Stony Brook’s 11-2 non-conference record is its best since the 1993-94 season. It is also the best win percentage for an #AEHoops program in non-conference games since Vermont in 1992-93.
  • Maine (9-6) is ranked 25th in the College Insider Mid-Major Top-25.
  • America East teams have four wins over Power 5/Atlantic-10 teams this season, including Maine’s win over North Carolina and Stony Brook’s win over Penn State.
  • Stony Brook senior Shania Johnson ranks second in the nation with 8.1 assists per game.
  • Johnson set a new single-game league record with 15 assists against New Paltz earlier this season.
  • Vermont senior Candice Wright ranks fourth in the country with 3.3 blocks per game.
  • Wright has recorded eight blocks in a game twice this season. That mark is tied for third-most in a single game in league history.

Player of the Week
Parise Rossignol, Maine – Sr., Guard, Van Burnen, Maine
  • Guided the Black Bears to a 2-0 start to conference play.
  • Averaged 18.5 points on 79 percent shooting against New Hampshire and UMBC.
  • This is Rossignol’s first Player of the Week award of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Anastasia Warren, Stony Brook – Fr., Guard, Atlanta, Ga.
  • Averaged 7.0 points per game on 43 percent shooting in 1-1 week.
  • Scored six points and dished out four assists in Stony Brook’s first league win, a 76-56 triumph over UMass Lowell.
  • This is her fourth Rookie of the Week nod this season.
