Overtime Victories Highlight Exciting Week in #AEFH; Week #3 Awards Released

BOSTON – Week three of the season included a number of thrilling victories for America East field hockey teams. Vermont and UMass Lowell each earned overtime wins over Ivy League opponents while Pacific topped Big Ten foe Michigan State in extra time on the road. A trio of #AEFH teams remain in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Top-25 Coaches Poll. #18 Maine jumped up one spot from the previous week after two road wins over Lafayette and Quinnipiac. #23 Stanford earned three road wins and #25 Albany split a pair of decisions.
 
The majority of #AEFH games will appear AmericaEast.TV, the place to watch free live content on any device, including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels. Here are the conference’s weekly award winners:
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Corinne Zanolli, Stanford – So., Attacker, Newtown Square, Pa.
  • Exploded for a whopping 10 goals in three wins on the road for the Cardinal.
  • Scored five of the team’s eight goals on career-high nine shots against Ohio.
  • Also netted two of Stanford’s four goals in win over Indiana.
  • This is Zanolli’s first career Offensive Player of the Week award.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Marlise van Tonder, Pacific – So., Goalkeeper, Pretoria, South Africa
  • Totaled 13 saves on 14 shots on goal in Pacific’s double overtime win over Michigan State.
  • Recorded shutout in the Tigers’ 7-0 victory over Central Michigan.
  • Allowed just three goals in three games in 2-1 week on the road.
  • van Tonder was named #AEFH Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jenna Berger, UMass Lowell – Fr., Midfielder, Waterloo, Ontario
  • Tallied two assists in UMass Lowell’s 4-3 2OT win over Columbia.
  • Set up the game-winning goal to give the River Hawks their third win of the season.
  • The freshman leads the team with four assists on the season.
  • It is Berger’s first career #AEFH weekly award.
