Week #2 #AEWSOC Awards Handed Out
BOSTON – The new women’s soccer season continued last week with Binghamton, Hartford and Stony Brook picking up wins. Through two weeks of play, the Hawks stand at 3-1 while the Bearcats are 2-1-1 and the Seawolves and Albany are each 2-2.
The majority of #AEWSOC conference games will appear AmericaEast.TV, the place to watch free live content on any device, including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels. Here are the conference's week #2 award winners:
Offensive Player of the Week
Kayla Saager, Binghamton – Sr., Forward, East Islip, N.Y.
- Scored in each of Binghamton’s games last week.
- Had the lone goal in the 74th minute to lift the Bearcats to a 1-0 win over Iona Sunday.
- Also scored in a 2-1 loss at Army Friday.
- This is Saager’s first #AEWSOC Player of the Week award of the season and fourth of her career (9/11/17, 9/5/17, 8/21/17).
Defensive Player of the Week
Sofia Manner, Stony Brook – So., Goalkeeper, Helsinki, Finland
- Stopped eight of the nine shots she faced in games against #20 Notre Dame and Seton Hall last week.
- Made six saves as Stony Brook nearly upset #20 Notre Dame before falling 1-0 in overtime Thursday.
- Had three saves in a shutout win over Seton Hall Sunday.
- This is Manner’s first career Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Mari Brenden, Stony Brook – Fr., Forward, Oslo, Norway
- Scored her first career goal, the only goal of the game, in Stony Brook’s 1-0 win at Seton Hall Sunday.
- This is Brenden’s first #AEWSOC Player of the Week award of her career.
