Four #AEMSOC Teams Earn Wins as Season Begins; Week #1 Awards Announced
BOSTON – Fresh off another impressive season, all eight #AEMSOC programs kicked off their 2018 campaigns over the weekend. UAlbany, UMBC, UMass Lowell and Vermont began their campaigns with wins.
The majority of #AEMSOC conference games will appear AmericaEast.TV, the place to watch free live content on any device, including the network's Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV OTT channels. Here are the conference's first weekly award winners of 2018:
Offensive Player of the Week
Nico Solabarrieta, UAlbany – Sr., Forward, Santiago, Chile
- Scored twice in UAlbany’s season-opening 4-3 win vs. Marist.
- Both scores came in the second half, just 7:44 apart.
- Also scored in a 2-1 loss at Army Friday.
- This is Solabarrieta’s first #AEMSOC Offensive Player of the Week award of the season and career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Zach Rowell, UMass Lowell – Sr., Goalkeeper, Haverhill, Mass.
- Stopped all three shots he faced in UMass Lowell’s 1-0 season-opening win vs. UMass, an NCAA tournament team a year ago.
- The shutout was the first of his career.
- This is Rowell’s first career Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Jackson Becher, UMBC – Fr., Forward, Hummelstown, Pa.
- Scored his first career goal, the only goal of the game, in UMBC’s 1-0 win over Temple Friday.
- This is Becher’s first #AEMSOC Rookie of the Week award of her career.
