All-Americans Purrier, McClancy Tabbed America East 2017-18 Scholar-Athletes of Year

BOSTON – All-Americans Kyle McClancy and Elinor Purrier are America East's 2017-18 Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. The duo was chosen from a group of 14 student-athletes who were named sport Scholar-Athletes this year.

2017-18 America East Scholar-Athletes of the Year
Male: Kyle McClancy, Sr., Men’s Lacrosse, University at Albany 
  • Just the fourth Great Dane to be named America East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the first since 2006.
  • Graduated with a 3.87 GPA in business administration with a management and finance concentration.
  • America East Man of the Year.
  • Two-time men’s lacrosse Scholar-Athlete.
  • America East All-Academic choice for the third time in his career in 2017-18.
  • America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete for graduating with over a 3.75 GPA.
  • Two-time All-American and two-time America East First-Team All-Conference selection.
  • Led Albany to the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Final Four for the first time in 2018.
  • Plays professionally in Major League Lacrosse for the Atlanta Blaze.
Female: Elinor Purrier, Sr., Cross Country/Track & Field, University of New Hampshire
  • Just the second female to repeat as Scholar-Athlete of the Year joining Boston University’s Marisa Ryan (2005-06 & 2006-07).
  • Graduated with a 3.71 GPA in nutrition: wellness and ecogastronomy.
  • Earned Scholar-Athlete honors in Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field for the second-straight year giving her six career Scholar-Athlete honors.
  • Was an America East All-Academic selection three times again this year, increasing her career total to nine.
  • National champion in the indoor mile at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship becoming just the fourth America East track & field student-athlete to ever win a national title.
  • Was a four-time All-American in 2017-18 and earned 11 All-America honors during her career.
  • 17-time America East champion.
  • Runs professionally for New Balance Boston.
McClancy and Purrier excelled as student-athletes this year, embodying the conference's three pillars of the complete student-athlete. The Scholar-Athletes of the Year were voted on by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement Committee. Each year, the committee elects a Scholar-Athlete in each of the league's 18 championship sports following the fall, winter and spring seasons and from that group, chooses one male and one female as the conference's Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
