Academic Excellence Continues as Record Number of AE Winter/Spring Student-Athletes Earn Honor Roll Status

BOSTON – America East student-athletes continued to set new conference standards in the classroom with a record two-thirds of those who competed in winter or spring sports achieving academic Honor Roll status, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. Honor Roll recognition is bestowed to student-athletes who obtain a semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 higher during their competition season.

"America East student-athletes continue to set the bar higher with their hard work and achievements in the classroom all while balancing the challenges of being a Division I student-athlete at demanding institutions," said America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen. 

Need to Know
  • A record total of 1,502 student-athletes who competed in America East sponsored winter and spring sports earned Honor Roll recognition.
  • 68.1 percent of the over 2,200 America East winter/spring student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 GPA during the 2018 spring semester, a 2.3 percent increase from last year, and a new conference record with the winter-spring season.
  • Of that group, over one-third (35.9 percent) and 793 in total earned Commissioner’s Honor Roll status for registering a GPA of 3.5 or better.
  • The University of New Hampshire had the highest percentage of student-athletes achieve Honor Roll status with 80 percent.  
  • Vermont women’s basketball had 100% of its student-athletes on either the Honor Roll or Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
  • In total, 2,289 America East student-athletes earned Academic Honor Roll in 2017-18, over 70 percent of the total student-athletes (3,268).
  • America East student-athletes have averaged at least a 3.0 GPA in each of the last 13 years.
