BOSTON – America East student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom, exceeding the national average in Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the 14th consecutive year and ranking among the top 40 percent of all Division I conferences. APR measures student-athletes’ progress towards graduation based on eligibility and retention.

Highlights
  • Women’s basketball teams tied for first among all conferences with a perfect 1,000 APR.
  • Men’s basketball teams ranked first among all the DI subdivision conferences, fifth among all FCS/DI conferences and ninth overall.
  • America East tied for fourth among the 11 DI subdivision conferences, tied for 8th among the 22 FCS/DI conferences and America East tied for 13th overall among all 32 DI conferences.
  • Fifty-three teams earned a perfect APR of 1,000 for the year (13 men’s teams, 40 women’s teams).
  • Women’s basketball and women’s cross country had the highest number of teams with a 1000 APR with eight each.
  • Binghamton University had nine teams with a 1000 APR, the most of any other America East institution.
  • Nineteen programs earned APR Public Recognition Awards for the ranking in the top 10 percent of their sport nationally.
“Our student-athletes continue to thrive academically and progress towards graduation while balancing the challenges of being a Division I athlete,” America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen said. "The great value our student-athletes and institutions place on their education and their dedication towards achieving academic excellence is truly impressive."

The APR, implemented in 2003 to be a more real-time measurement of academic success than graduation rates, is a team-based metric through which scholarship student-athletes each term earn 1 point for remaining eligible and 1 point for staying in school or graduating.
