STONY BROOK, N.Y. – For the sixth consecutive year, Stony Brook has claimed the America East women’s lacrosse crown. With their 22-14 victory over Albany in the championship game, the top-seeded Seawolves clinched the conference’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA tournament. They also became the first #AEWLAX program to win six straight championships since Boston University did so from 2005-10.

The Seawolves, the top ranked and only undefeated team in the nation, earned the No. 5 seed for the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship and will host the winner of Penn/Penn State on Sunday, May 13 at LaValle Stadium. NCAA Bracket

Stony Brook senior Samantha DiSalvo opened up the scoring with a man-up goal 6 minutes and 30 seconds into the game. 2018 Rookie of the Year Kendra Harbinger scored the equalizer for Albany several minutes later before Emma Powlin and Madison Conway gave the Great Danes a two-goal lead.

The Seawolves then scored three-straight goals, including two from Offensive Player of the Year, Kylie Ohlmiller, to regain the lead. Both teams swapped goals until Stony Brook put together a string of four unanswered and eventually scored with 16 seconds remaining in the half to take a 12-8 lead into the break.

The Seawolves’ scoring did not slow down in the next frame as they accounted for six of the first seven goals to start the second half. Ohlmiller scored three times in that span and finished with a game-high seven goals on the day.

The Tewaaraton nominee recorded eight points in the championship game and broke the conference record for points in a single tournament by totaling 17 over the course of two games. Ohlmiller was named the championship’s Most Outsanding Player for the second-straight year and third time in her career.

She was joined on the All-Championship Team by her sister, Taryn Ohlmiller, who scored a game-high nine points on a pair of goals and seven assists for Stony Brook. Fellow All-Championship selections Courtney Murphy and Ally Kennedy each tallied six points in the win.

Also named to the All-Championship team were Albany’s Powlin, Sam Tortora and Kaylee Rickert, New Hampshire’s Rebecca Sennott and Carly Wooters and Binghamton’s Brianne Arthur and Kaia Gallop.

Samantha DiSalvo was honored with the Elite 18 award, which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing in the championship game. The senior holds a 3.99 GPA as a biology major.
