Stony Brook, Albany to Play for #AEWLAX Championship

Stony Brook, N.Y. – For the sixth consecutive year, the top seeds will meet in the #AEWLAX championship game. Top-seeded Stony Brook advanced to their seventh-straight title game with a win over New Hampshire in the semifinals while No. 2 Albany clinched their eighth consecutive appearance after beating Binghamton Friday.
 
 
Stony Brook 19, New Hampshire 5 – Box Score
  • Four goals apiece from Kylie Ohlmiller and Courtney Murphy in the first half alone had Stony Brook off to an early jump, leading 16-1 at the game’s midway point.
  • Ohlmiller - the 2018 Offensive Player of the Year - finished with nine points, tying the conference record for points in a tournament game as she exited the game with over ten minutes remaining.
  • Second Team All-Conference selection Krissy Schafer was one of five goal-scorers for the Wildcats.
  • Schafer and fellow senior Teagan Northrup each finished with two points.
  • Murphy, a First Team All-Conference selection, finished with seven points on five goals and two assists, including a number of highlight-reel behind-the-back plays.
  • Goalkeeper of the Year Anna Tesoriero saved 66 percent of shots, totaling eight saves on the afternoon.
  • The Seawolves outshot the Wildcats 30-20.
 
Albany 16, Binghamton 10 – Box Score
  • The Great Danes advanced to a 4-0 lead to begin the game on a pair of goals from First Team All-Conference selection Emma Powlin.
  • Binghamton battled back and got a pair of goals from another All-Conference first teamer, Jacqueline Kennedy, and cut the defecit to one with under a minute left in the first half.
  • All-Rookie selection Kyla Zapolski scored on the man-up with nine seconds remaining to put the Great Danes up 7-5 heading into halftime.
  • The Bearcats scored three straight goals to start the second half and took an 8-7 lead.
  • Albany then scored eight unanswered goals to get in front for good.
  • Sophomore Sam Tortora finished with a game-high seven points, five of which came in the second half.
  • Zapolski scored a game-high five goals.
 
Stony Brook and Albany will face off in the 2018 America East Women’s Lacrosse Championship at noon on Sunday, May 6 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, N.Y. The action will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The Seawolves will vie for their sixth-straight America East Women’s Lacrosse Championship, which would tie a conference record. Albany will play in its eighth championship game in program history as the Great Danes seek their first title since 2012 and third overall.
