Ohlmiller Named Offensive Player of the Year, Seawolves Garner Five #AEWLAX Major Awards

Stony Brook, N.Y. – On the heels of the best regular season by any team in #AEWLAX history, Stony Brook received five of the six major awards Thursday evening at the annual awards banquet. Four repeat selections included recognition for the nation’s top defensive team as Brooke Gubitosi again won the Defensive Player of the Year award and Anna Tesoriero was honored as the Goalkeeper of the Year.
 
The 2018 #AEWLAX awards and All-Conference teams were determined in a vote by the league's eight head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Offensive Player of the Year
Kylie Ohlmiller, Sr., Attack, Stony Brook
  • Second consecutive Offensive Player of the Year award.
  • Tewaaraton Award nominee.
  • Broke NCAA Division I career records for points and assists.
  • Leads the country averaging 7.53 points per game.
  • Named to the All-Conference First Team for the fourth time.
 
Defensive Player of the Year
Brooke Gubitosi, Sr., Defense, Stony Brook
  • First student-athlete to win the award twice, doing so in consecutive seasons.
  • Leads Stony Brook and ranks fifth in the league with 26 caused turnovers.
  • Her 37 ground balls is second on the team.
  • The Seawolves allowed the fewest goals per game to opponents in the country.
  • A First Team All-Conference selection for the second time.
 
Midfielder of the Year
Ally Kennedy, So., Midfield, Stony Brook
  • Ranks ninth in the conference with 3.00 points per game.
  • Leads the team with 38 ground balls.
  • Has the fourth-most points for Stony Brook this season with 51.
  • Also ranks fourth with 36 goals.
  • Named to the All-Conference First Team for the first time.
 
Goalkeeper of the Year
Anna Tesoriero, Jr., Goalkeeper, Stony Brook
  • Earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second-straight year.
  • Leads the country with a 7.04 goals against average.
  • Saved a conference-best 49 percent of shots.
  • A First Team All-Conference selection for the third time.
  • A three-time Defensive Player of the Week honoree this season.
 
Rookie of the Year
Kendra Harbinger, Fr., Attack, Albany
  • The First Great Dane to win Rookie of the Year since 2013.
  • Leads all freshmen with 2.44 goals per game.
  • Averaged 2.86 goals per game in league play, the best among freshmen.
  • Ranks second on the team with 46 points.
  • Named Rookie of the Week seven times during the season.
 
Coach of the Year
Joe Spallina, Stony Brook
  • Recognized as Coach of the Year for a record fifth time and fourth consecutively.
  • Stony Brook became the first #AEWLAX program to earn the number 1 ranking in national polls and finished the regular season in the top spot.
  • The Seawolves went undefeated in conference play for the fourth consecutive year.
  • Spallina’s defense allows the fewest goals in the nation while his offense ranks second in the country in scoring.
  • The Seawolves clinched their sixth-straight regular season title.
 
The 2018 America East Women’s Lacrosse Championship will begin on Friday, May 4 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, N.Y. No. 1 Stony Brook will play No. 4 New Hampshire at 4:30 p.m. and No. 2 Albany will face No. 3 Binghamton at 7:00 p.m. Both semifinal games will be streamed live on AmericaEast.tv. The championship game will be broadcast on ESPN+ at noon on Sunday May 6.
