Hartford Sweeps Major Awards as 2018 #AEBASE All-Conference Teams Announced

Orono, Maine – After clinching the regular season title on Friday, Hartford swept the four major awards on the eve of the 2018 America East Baseball Championship as the #AEBASE All-Conference Teams were announced Tuesday at
the annual awards dinner.
 
Hartford senior Nick Campana was named Player of the Year while his teammate, freshman Nicholas Dombkowski, was named Rookie of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. Head Coach Justin Blood was unanimously selected as the Coach of the Year.
 
The 2018 #AEBASE awards, along with the All-Conference teams, were determined in a vote by the league's seven head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Player of the Year
Nick Campana, Sr., Hartford
  • Hitting .403 on the season, which leads the conference.
  • Ranks in the top-three with 10 home runs and 38 RBI.
  • He is the second Hawk in three years to be named Player of the Year.
 
Rookie of the Year & Pitcher of the Year
Nicholas Dombkowski, Fr., Hartford
  • Became the first student-athlete in league history to be named Rookie of the Year and Pitcher of the Year in the same season.
  • Dombkowski started 12 games for Hartford in his first collegiate season and enters the postseason with a 3.01 ERA.
  • The southpaw recorded 60 strikeouts in 77.2 innings pitched, the latter of which ranks in the league’s top-five.
 
Coach of the Year
Justin Blood, Hartford
  • Blood became the first Hartford coach to be named Coach of the Year.
  • In his seventh season, guided the Hawks to their first America East regular season title in program history.
  • After being picked last in the preseason poll, the Hawks clinched the top seed and a bye in the championship.
 
30 players earned All-Conference recognition, 11 were selected to the All-Rookie Team and 10 were voted to the All-Academic Team.
 
The 2018 America East Baseball Championship begins Wednesday as No. 4 Stony Brook and No. 5 Maine take the diamond to begin play at 11 a.m. No. 3 UMBC and No. 6 Albany will follow with the losers of both games facing off in an elimination game to end the opening day. The top-seeded Hartford Hawks will play the winner of Game 1 at 11 a.m. on Thursday. No. 2 UMass Lowell opens play against the winner of Game 2 on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The championship game will be played on Saturday with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Baseball Championship. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+ throughout the week.
