Albany Punches Ticket to NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Weekend
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Albany men’s lacrosse team is off to Championship Weekend for the first time in program history. The Great Danes beat Denver 15-13 in the NCAA Quarterfinal round on Saturday on Long Island to earn their first-ever trip to the NCAA semifinals.
Albany (16-2) is the first America East men's lacrosse team to reach Championship Weekend since Towson in 2001. The Great Danes are the third America East program to reach the NCAA semifinal round since 2014 joining UMBC's 2014 men's soccer squad and Albany's 2014 field hockey team. Stony Brook baseball also reached the College World Series in 2012.
Kyle McClancy tallied a team-best five points on three goals and two assists to lead Albany, the #2 seed in the champoinship.
Jakob Patterson and Sean Eccles each finished three goals and an assist, while Tehoka Nanticoke notched three goals and Justin Reh got two goals and two assists.
Albany will take on Yale in the NCAA semifinals Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. Game time will be noon or 2:30 p.m.
