Five Teams Clinch Postseason Berths, #AEBASE Week 13 Awards Announced

BOSTON – One weekend remains in the #AEBASE regular season and the plot has thickened in the standings. Hartford, Stony Brook, UMass Lowell, UMBC and Maine have all clinched berths in the 2018 America East Baseball Championship. Albany and Binghamton are vying for the final spot in the postseason and it will be decided by Albany’s upcoming series against UMBC.
 
The 2018 #AEBASE Championship will be held by the University of Maine on May 23-26.

Here are this week’s awards:
 
Player of the Week
Hernen Sardinas, Maine – So., OF, Miami, Fla.

• Hit .500 and slugged .857 in Maine’s sweep of Albany.
• Sardinas had three multi-hit games, each of which included an extra-base hit.
• He also drove in a run in all three games and scored five runs on the week.

 
Pitcher of the Week
Matt Chanin, UMBC – Sr., RHP, Olney, Md.

• Threw a complete-game shutout in win over Binghamton Saturday.
• Allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out five.
• This is the second time this season Chanin has been named Pitcher of the Week.

 
Co-Rookie of the Week
Nicholas Dombkowski, Hartford – Fr., LHP, West Springfield, Mass.

• Threw seven scoreless innings in win over Stony Brook.
• Struck out five batters and allowed five base-runners.
• This is his second #AEBASE Rookie of the Week award.

 
Co-Rookie of the Week
John Tuccillo, Stony Brook – Fr., C, Clinton Corners, N.Y.

• Went 3-for-6 in a pair of wins for Stony Brook against Hartford.
• Hit walk-off single in Sunday’s win.
• This is his first career #AEBASE award.
