#AEMLAX Championship Heads to Albany Again, Bracket Set
Albany, Stony Brook, Vermont and UMass Lowell will play for the 2018 America East men's lacrosse title as the four teams will head to Albany for next week's conference championship. The tournament field and bracket were finalized this weekend as the Great Danes and Seawolves each earned a share of the league’s regular-season title and the River Hawks earned the championship’s final bid.
For the sixth-straight year, Albany (12-2, 5-1 AE) is the No. 1 seed and will host the championship at Casey Stadium for the fourth-consecutive year. The Great Danes, the fifth-ranked team in the country, beat Hartford, 16-6, Saturday to secure its sixth-straight regular-season crown and ninth all-time.
Stony Brook (7-7, 5-1 AE) shares the regular-season title with Albany and will be the No. 2 seed. The Seawolves, winners of three in a row, have their fifth regular-season crown and first since 2012.
Vermont (11-3, 4-2 AE) earned the No. 3 seed with a 9-6 win over UMBC Friday night. The Catamounts’ 11 wins match their program record.
UMass Lowell (8-7, 3-3 AE) won the tiebreak over UMBC due to its 10-7 win over the Retrievers on March 31. The River Hawks are making their first-ever tournament appearance in their first eligible season and fourth as a program.
Semifinal action takes place on Thursday, May 3 with #2 Stony Brook facing #3 Vermont in the first semifinal at 4:30 p.m. followed by #1 Albany, the #5 team in the nation, battling #4 UMass Lowell at 7:00 p.m. in the nightcap.
The two winners will face off for the league title on Saturday, May 5 at 12 p.m. with the winner earning a trip to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship, where America East teams have won six games in the past 11 seasons and 12 all-time.
The entire championship will air on ESPN networks with the semifinals on ESPN+ and championship game on ESPNU.
