Maine Earns Pair of #AEBASE Weekly Awards on Heels of Win over No. 24 Miami

BOSTON – Some tough opponents appeared on the schedule for #AEBASE teams last week, including the top two teams in the nation. Maine (3-8) recorded a series-opening victory at No. 24 Miami, 6-1 to highlight last weekend’s action. UMass Lowell (3-7) earned a 5-4 victory over Wake Forest while Albany (3-3) took two out of three from Towson.
 
Here are this week’s awards:
 
Player of the Week
Jonathan Bennett, Maine – Sr., DH/C, Pensacola, Fla.
  • Hit .385 (5-13) in Maine’s series against No. 24 Miami.
  • Went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs in the Black Bears’ win over the Hurricanes.
  • Bennett also scored three runs and drew three walks in the series.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Justin Courtney, Maine – Jr., P, Bangor, Maine
  • Pitched 6.0 innings of one-hit baseball in Maine’s win over No. 24 Miami.
  • Courtney allowed one earned run and struck out eight.
  • This is his second consecutive #AEBASE Player of the Week award.
 
Rookie of the Week
Ryan Hernandez, Albany – Fr., 1B, Boston
  • Combined to hit .363 in Albany’s series victory over Towson.
  • Hernandez scored five runs in the three games combined.
  • This is his first #AEBASE award of his career.
