Three #AESB Programs Net Week #6 Awards

BOSTON – A March snowstorm left Maine and Binghamton without games last week while Stony Brook was forced to cancel the Stony Brook Invitational. UMBC won three games in the UMBC Retrievers Classic while Binghamton picked up a pair of non-conference wins in the same tournament.
 
Conference play begins Friday as six America East programs will go head-to-head over the course of the weekend.
 
Here are the 2018 week #6 award winners:
 
Player of the Week
Valerie Hammett, UMBC – So., IF/P, Mechanicsville, Md.

• Hit 9-for-11 in UMBC’s 3-0 week, scoring three runs and driving in three.
• She tossed a complete game, allowing one run on five hits in a win over Saint Peter’s.
• This is her first career #AESB Weekly Award.

 
Co-Pitcher of the Week
Lovina Capria, UMass Lowell – Fr., P, Deltona, Fla.

• Went 2-0, allowing one run in 13 innings pitched.
• Threw two complete games, combining to strike out 13 batters.
• Pitched eight innings, striking out eight in win over Sacred Heart.

 
Co-Pitcher of the Week
Melissa Rahrich, Stony Brook – So., P, Brighton, Colo.

• Threw a complete-game shutout in win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
• Struck out nine while surrendering one walk.
• This is Rahrich’s second Pitcher of the Week award this season.

 
Rookie of the Week
Sara Siteman, UMass Lowell – Fr., C, Hudson, N.H.

• Hit .833 in 2-1 week for River Hawks.
• Drove in a team-best four runs in three games.
• Combined for a .727 on-base percentage and 1.500 slugging percentage.
