Albany, Maine Earn First Weekly Awards of #AETF Outdoor Season
BOSTON – Albany, UMass Lowell and Maine all began their outdoor seasons this past weekend. Albany’s women’s program is fresh off a sixth consecutive America East indoor title while the UMass Lowell men’s team won their first in program history. The remaining America East track and field teams will begin their outdoor seasons in coming weeks including the New Hampshire Wildcats and senior Elinor Purrier, who won the national championship in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Here are this week’s award winners:
Female Track Performer of the Week
Stephanie Osuji, Albany – Sr., Sprints, Rosedale, N.Y.
- Won the women’s 100m in a time of 11.60 at the Shamrock Invitational.
- Osuji also led off the 4x100m relay team which won in a time of 46.48.
- It is her first #AETF Performer of the Week award this season.
Male Track Performer of the Week
Harmodio Cruz III, Albany – Fr., Sprints, Monmouth Junction, N.J.
- Won the 400m at the Spring Break Classic in Puerto Rico.
- Clocked in at a time of 47.61.
- It is his first career #AETF Performer of the Week award.
Female Field Performer of the Week
Alice Barnsdale, Maine – Fr., Hammer, Market Rasen, England
- Finished second in the hammer throw at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge.
- Her throw of 194’9” ranks third in school history and 12th in the nation.
- This is Barnsdale’s first career #AETF award.
Male Field Performer of the Week
Adrian Mitchell, Albany – So., Javelin, Kingston, Jamaica
- Placed second in the javelin at the Shamrock Invitational.
- Notched a throw of 215’6”.
- This is Mitchell’s fourth career Field Performer of the Week award.
