#1 Albany Knocks Off #2 Maryland; Fields Leads Week #5 Award Winners

BOSTON – Top-ranked Albany solidified its standing as the best men’s lacrosse team in the nation by beating #2 Maryland, 11-10, on Saturday. The Great Danes scored four times in the final 6:30 to come from behind vs. the reigning national champions.
 
Following the win, the Great Danes are the unanimous #1 team in the nation in both the UISLA Coaches’ Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll this week.
 
Additionally, Vermont improved to 7-0 with its 17-14 win over Sacred Heart and rose to #12 in the Inside Lacrosse Poll and #14 in the USILA Poll.

Here are the 2018 week #5 award winners:

Offensive Player of the Week
Connor Fields, Albany – Sr., Attacker, Buffalo, N.Y.
  • Racked up 18 points in just two games last week, wins at UMass and #2 Maryland.
  • Recorded a career-high 12 points on five goals and seven assists in an 19-8 win vs. UMass Tuesday
  • He followed up with four goals and two assists in the win over the Terrapins Saturday. His score with 1:14 remaining proved to be the game winner.
  • This is Fields’ second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season and 10th of his career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kevin Carbone, Binghamton – So., Goalkeeper, Huntington, N.Y.
  • Made 14 saves, including a key stop in double-overtime, to lead Binghamton to an 8-7 double-overtime win vs. Delaware.
  • Recorded a .667 save percentage in his first collegiate start.
  • This is Carbone’s first career Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Liam Limoges, Vermont – Fr., Attack, Toronto, Ont.
  • Scored a career-high four goals and added an assist in Vermont’s 17-14 win over Sacred Heart Wednesday.
  • This is Limoges’ first career Rookie of the Week honor.
