Three Men's #AEHoops Teams Postseason Bound
A trio of America East men’s basketball teams are postseason bound. America East champion UMBC, regular-season champion Vermont and Hartford will all continue their seasons this week.
UMBC, which beat Vermont in the league title game Saturday on Jairus Lyles’ game-winning three-pointer with 0.7 seconds remaining, will play Virginia in the first round of the NCAA tournament, while Vermont heads to the NIT and Hartford will play in the CIT.
UMBC (24-10) earned a 16 seed in the NCAA tournament and will face the top-seeded Cavaliers in Charlotte on Friday. Tip time is 9:20 p.m. ET and the game will be nationally televised on TNT.
Vermont (27-8) is making its 14th postseason appearance in the last 16 seasons. The Catamounts, a #6 seed in the NIT, will play at #3 Middle Tennessee in the first round on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
Hartford (19-13) will be making its second-ever postseason showing and first since 2013. The Hawks, who set a program record with their 19 wins this season, play at San Diego Monday at 10 p.m. ET in the first round of the CIT.
America East has had multiple postseason teams in 14 of the last 16 years. All together 74 #AEHoops teams have played in the postseason all-time and combined to win 22 games. Last season, UMBC advanced to the semifinals of the CIT, the fourth time since 2009 an #AEHoops team has reach the Final Four of a postseason tournament.
