Stony Brook, Maine Earn #AEBASE Week 2 Awards

BOSTON – Albany, Hartford and UMBC began their 2018 seasons last week, hitting the diamond in Virginia, Alabama and North Carolina, respectively. The Retrievers opened their season with a win over BIG Ten opponent Penn State while Stony Brook won three games against different opponents.
 
Here are this week’s awards:
 
Player of the Week
Michael Wilson, Stony Brook – So., OF, Colonia, N.J.
  • Hit .400 in 3-0 weekend for the Seawolves.
  • Drove in three runs and also scored three in wins over Iona, Sacred Heart and Norfolk State.
  • Slugged .533 in the three games combined.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Justin Courtney, Maine – Jr., P, Bangor, Maine
  • Pitched 7.2 innings and earned the win over Ohio.
  • Surrendered one run while striking out nine.
  • Allowed one walk and four hits and, at one point, retired 13 consecutive batters.
 
Rookie of the Week
Michael Palazzolo, Stony Brook – Fr., SS, Dix Hills, N.Y.
  • Went 3-for-9 in a pair of wins for the Seawolves last week.
  • All three hits went for extra bases.
  • Batted in a pair of runs and also scored a pair.
