The America East Conference sports the top-ranked lacrosse programs in the country. A week after each were #2, the Albany men and Stony Brook women are both consensus #1 teams and sit atop both national polls.

The Great Danes and Seawolves are the first #AEMLAX and #AEWLAX teams, respectively, to be ranked #1 and join the 1994 Boston University men’s soccer team as the only America East programs in any sport to claim the honor.

Albany sits atop both the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and the USILA Coaches’ Poll while Stony Brook is #1 in both the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and IWLCA Coaches’ Poll.

One week after beating #7/8 Syracuse, Albany (2-0) trounced Drexel, 18-5, after jumping out to a 16-2 halftime lead. Reigning Tewaaraton finalist Connor Fields racked up a team-best nine points on two goals and seven assists. Freshman sensation Tehoka Nanticoke added three goals and two assists in his second career game. Sophomore TD Ierlan, the 2017 America East Rookie of the Year, won 21-of-22 faceoffs and had 17 ground balls.

Stony Brook (3-0) continued to down ranked opponents beating #23 Stanford, 15-9, and crushing #20 Denver, 16-3, last week. Kylie Ohlmiller, a Tewaaraton finalist in 2017, led Stony Brook with 10 goals and three assists in the two games.

The two teams continue their seasons Saturday with Albany taking on Cornell and Stony Brook visiting #8 Northwestern in a rematch of last year’s NCAA second-round matchup won by the Seawolves.
