Vermont Claims Regular-Season Crown as #AEPlayoffs Take Shape; Final Weekly Awards Announced

BOSTON – With less than a week until the start of the 2018 #AEPlayoffs, much of the playoff picture is known. Vermont wrapped up its eighth #AEHoops regular season title last week and will be seeded #1 for the third time in five years. Hartford and UMBC remain in a battle for the #2 seed, which will be decided when the two teams square off Tuesday. Albany has secured the #4 seed and will host #5 Stony Brook in a quarterfinal. #6 New Hampshire, #7 UMass Lowell and #8 Maine round out the seeds.
 
For the fourth-straight year all rounds of the #AEPlayoffs will be played on campus sites. The quarterfinals take place on Saturday, March 3 with the semifinals on Tuesday, March 6 and the championship game on Saturday, March 10. Visit Playoffs Central for complete information.

Co-Player of the Week
Joe Cremo, Albany – Jr., Guard, Scotia, N.Y.
  • Scored 24 points added four assists to lead Albany to a win over Maine Saturday, its lone game of the week.
  • This is Cremo’s fourth Player of the Week honor of the season (2/5, 12/11, 11/27) and sixth of his career.
Co-Player of the Week
John Carroll, Hartford – Jr., Forward, Dublin, Ireland
  • Averaged 18.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Hartford.
  • Had 23 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Hartford to a win over Binghamton Sunday, its program-record tying 18th of the season.
  • This is Carroll’s first-ever #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Elijah Olaniyi, Stony Brook – Fr., Forward, Newark, N.J.  
  • Averaged 12.0 points and 3.0 rebounds to in a 1-1 week for Stony Brook.
  • Had 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and four rebounds in a key win at UMBC Wednesday.
  • This is Olaniyi’s fourth Rookie of the Week honor of the season (2/12, 12/4, 11/27).
