UMBC, UMass Lowell Kick Off #AESB Seasons, Earn Weekly Awards
BOSTON – UMBC and UMass Lowell kicked off their 2018 softball seasons over the weekend while the other five #AESB programs begin play this week.
Here are the 2018 week #1 award winners:
Player of the Week
Maddie Daigneau, UMBC – So. Shortstop, New River, Ariz.
- Hit .500 (8-for-16) with a double, triple and five runs scored in five games for UMBC last week.
- Had a pair of hits and scored three runs in UMBC’s win over East Carolina Sunday
- This is Daigneau’s first Player of the Week honor of the season and third of her career.
Pitcher of the Week
Kaysee Talcik, UMass Lowell – Jr., Pitcher, Shelton, Conn.
- Fanned 13 hitters in 13 innings of week across three appearances last week.
- Struck out nine vs. #10 Tennessee.
- This is Talcik’s fourth career #AESB Pitcher of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Julia Keffler, UMBC – Fr., Utility, Huntington, Md.
- Hit .308 (4-for-13) with a .413 on-base percentage in five games for UMBC last week
- This is Keffler’s first career #AESB Rookie of the Week honor.
