Four #AEBASE Programs Open 2018 Season as Weekly Awards Handed Out

BOSTON – The first pitch of the 2018 college baseball season was thrown this past weekend and Binghamton, UMass Lowell, Maine and Stony Brook took to the diamond to open their seasons. The Seawolves won their series at Nicholls State, taking three of four games. The River Hawks picked up a pair of wins against Morehead State in the Shipyard Classic in Charleston.

The Bearcats were unanimously chosen as the favorite in the preseason coaches' poll. The full poll can be viewed here.

Here are this week’s awards:
 
Player of the Week
Anthony Meduri, Binghamton – So., OF, Columbus, N.J.
  • Hit .455 in the Bearcats’ opening three-game series.
  • Drove in three runs in three games and recorded a .545 slugging percentage.
  • Also added an on-base percentage of .500.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Cole Creighton, Stony Brook – Sr., P, Levittown, Pa.
  • Claimed his first career win and first career save in Stony Brook’s series victory over Nicholls.
  • Creighton combined to pitch seven innings of relief, striking out five in two appearances.
  • He allowed just one run in that span.
 
Rookie of the Week
Henry Funaro, UMass Lowell – Fr., P, Lowell, Mass.
  • Threw five no-hit innings against Morehead State.
  • Did not allow a run in his collegiate debut.
  • Struck out six and earned the win.
