Stony Brook Opens Season with Top-5 Win, #AEWLAX Awards Bestowed

BOSTON – For the second consecutive week, two #AEWLAX teams earned season-opening victories. No. 2 Stony Brook won a battle of top-five programs, defeating No. 5 USC on the road 14-10. UMBC began their season with a home win over LIU Brooklyn.

Here are the week’s award winners:
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Courtney Murphy, Stony Brook – Sr., Attack, Shirley, N.Y.
  • Scored eight points on four goals and four assists in Stony Brook’s win over No. 5 USC.
  • All three statistics were game-highs in her first game since March 5, 2017.
  • This is Murphy’s sixth career Offensive Player of the Week award.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Anna Tesoriero, Stony Brook – Jr., GK, Huntington, N.Y.
  • Saved 10 shots on goal for the Seawolves in a road win at No. 5 USC.
  • Saved 50 percent of shots she faced.
  • Also scooped up five ground balls in the win.
 
Rookie of the Week
Kendra Harbinger, Albany – Fr., Midfield, Clifton Park, N.Y.
  • Scored twice on three shots in her collegiate debut.
  • Her two goals were tied for a team-high.
  • Also had one draw control in Albany’s game against Yale.
