UMBC, New Hampshire Lead Entering Final Day of #AESD Championships

Worcester, Mass. – Heading into the final day of the #AESD Championships, UMBC and New Hampshire reside atop the standings in men’s and women’s competition, respectively. While the Wildcats remain ahead of the pack, the Retrievers gained ground to make for a captivating final day of competition.

Day 3 Highlights
  • Corinne Carbone took home the first gold medal of the evening, defending her title in the 400-yard IM. The New Hampshire senior's final time was 4:17.76.
  • The women’s 100-yard butterfly resulted in a tie for first with Binghamton junior Brooke Pettis and UMBC freshman Natalija Marin finishing in 55.37 to split the top spot on the podium.
  • Luis Galvan Cardenas broke the championship record in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke, earning gold with his time of 55.05.
  • UMBC grabbed the top three finishes in the men’s 200-yard freestyle and five of the top eight podium positions. Ilia Rattsev’s final time of 1:37.14 led the pack.
  • The 400-yard medley relay teams for UMBC (men) and New Hampshire (women) won gold to close out the night.
 
The final day of competition begins at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Finals begin at 5:30 p.m. and the competition and awards ceremony can be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV.
