Men's Programs Return to #AESD Championships as Competition Begins
Worcester, Mass. – The 2018 America East Swimming and Diving Championships commenced Thursday at WPI. It marked the first time since 2013 that men’s swimming and diving teams competed in the championship. It was also the inaugural America East Championship appearance for VMI, who joined the conference as an associate member in the summer of 2017.

Day 1 Highlights
- UMBC swept the 800-yard freestyle relays. The women earned the first gold medal of the weekend, finishing in 7:20.38 and the men followed with a time of 6:36.49, setting a new pool record in the process.
- New Hampshire senior Hailee Miller took gold in the women’s 1-meter diving with a score of 236.80. She became the first Wildcat in America East history to win the event.
- UMBC sophomore Ben Parker earned first place in the men’s 3-meter diving by scoring 276.85.
- The quartet of Alexander Gliese, Jared Vance, Philip Adejumo and Ilia Rattsev for UMBC set a record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:28.61, breaking Boston University’s record of 1:28.91 set in 2011.
Day 2 events begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday with trials in the men’s and women’s 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle. Finals in nine events start at 5:30 p.m. The #AESD Championships can be streamed live all weekend long on
